I am currently reading Material cultures, and smiled while I was browing the acknowledgements:
“ The introduction makes note of the fact that all the contributors worked together for several years as a team in order to produce this volume. But it does not acknowledge the social context through which this was done. Indeed the most important acknowledgement in this case should perhaps go to the role of alcohol, without which it is doubtful that this volume would have been produced, or at least with the degree of enthusiasm and excitement that I hope comes through in the various chapters”
It just reminded me of what Daniel Miller told me during dinner and drinks, after his colloquium at Hallym University last April: “The methodology of an anthropologist is based on drinking and gossiping”. If this proves to be right, then, I was born and brought up to become an anthropologist ^^
I guess I’ll enjoy reading the book.

Ha!!! I certainly owe at least some scholarly credit to wine. Is there any scholar who doesn't?
